Yrbrurkk is a large gaseous planet located in the Wall of the Galaxy. Yrbrurkk has no physical terrain within its mass, except for floating islands of stone and metals located sporadically throughout the planet's atmospheres. Alongside these hovering monoliths, the local populations have created series of artificial platforms to house their many municipalities and trade centers. Suspended throughout the planet’s biosphere, each of these platforms offer Yrbrurkk's inhabitants and visitors refuge from the planet’s incredibly violent windstorms, explosive gas clouds, and hazardous wildlife. In particular, the Mykrukkan (MIE-KRUH-kan) Rays—gigantic, carnivorous predators that periodically enter Yrbrurkk's atmosphere from outer space to feed on gas clouds—are among the most temperamental and dangerous creatures on the planet. Many experienced ship captains have reported that when flying through Yrbrurkk’s upper and lower atmospheres, one must take care not to disturb the roaming flocks of Mykrukkan Rays, lest they want a quick and unceremonious death.
Yrbrurkk is one of the most physically uninviting yet commercially hospitable planets in the Galaxy. Its wildlife, natural atmosphere, and lack of considerable terrain make Yrbrurkk a hostile and unforgiving world. Its high gravity levels and unstable floating islands make settlement unpredictable and dangerous. Moreover, these islands are the nesting grounds for a myriad of airborne creatures, most of them hostile. Despite this, the local populations of Yrbrurkk weather the difficult conditions of their gaseous world through a combination of technological and economical ingenuity. Yrbrurkk’s floating platforms feature many stabilizing features, including artificial biospheres, water systems, air filters, gravity generators, and equilibrium matrixes that keep them aloft and balanced. This ensures that each of the settlements atop the platforms never risk sliding off their hovercraft or falling through the planet’s gaseous layers.
Yrbrurkk’s two moons, Gor-Patrok and Phison, are similar to their planet in almost every aspect. Both moons are small-sized gaseous bodies full of vaporous resources and pockets of small floating islands of rocks and metals. Like their host planet, Gor-Patrok and Phison are also home to a series of hazardous and temperamental creatures who prey upon all but the most prepared explorers.
However, Gor-Patrok and Phison differ in two critical aspects; their total masses and their atmospheric conditions. Phison, the smaller of the two moons, has atmospheres rich with Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus. This makes the moon reasonably livable for most species equipped with the most basic rebreather technology. Conversely, Gor-Patrok, the larger of the two moons, has harsher environmental conditions than its counterpart. Gor-Patrok features a thin atmosphere proliferated with a conductive electrical charge. This makes the moon incredibly treacherous for all kinds of technology. While it will not technically disable anything electrical, Gor-Patrok's atmospheres will severely hamper all navigational systems within a vessel. This makes landing or traversing Gor-Patrok incredibly difficult and hazardous, as many a lifeform will gladly take advantage of anything lingering throughout the moon’s atmosphere.
The Ybruk (YEYE-bruhk)
The Ybruk, the primary sentient species on Yrbrurkk, are organized under a strict hierarchical system. Divided into several guilds structured around the cultivation and marketing of select resources, each Ybruk focuses on gathering resources, fostering trade, and making profit above all else. Ybruk youth are trained form birth to focus the majority of their lives on ensuring personal survival through profit, often by any means possible. Gender norms are virtually non-existent, as Ybruks are expected to act in their self-interest whenever feasible. Even courting mates and procreation are considered selfish endeavors, as families with more children have more opportunities to grow their household’s influence within their particular guild and across the intergalactic market. In short, Ybruk families, spouses, and even children are solely viewed as valuable resources, with love and affection only utilized as positive reinforcement for desired (or marketable) behaviors. As such, the Ybruk are commonly viewed as one of the most emotionally detached species in the Galaxy.
Yrbrurkk Economy
Yrbrurkk's local populations have also dealt with the harsh conditions of their home through the economic exploitation of their limited natural resources. Though Yrbrurkk's many ariborne caves and mountains feature treacherous and formidable occupants—including the volatile Mykrukkan Rays—these drifting landmasses also host large pockets of rare and expensive minerals and metals, the most prominent among them being Va’ampourium (VAH-amm-poor-EE-umm).
Known for its distinctive purple-gray hue and energy-siphoning properties, this rare metalloid is coveted across the Galaxy. Primarily used in power conduits, batteries, and other technologies, Va'ampourium is an adaptable material that is essential for highly advanced technologies. Moreover, in their efforts to mine Yrbrurkk's large gas pockets, local populations have strategically mined the large asteroid ring orbiting around the planet. Located just outside the planet’s outermost atmosphere, the enormous ring of debris, space rocks, and metalloids has pockets of unusual minerals that cannot be found anywhere throughout Yrbrurkk's atmospheres. Among these rare resources is the unstable Valorium (VAL-orr-EE-um). Used primarily as a bonding agent, fuel source (and sometimes an explosive), Valorium is another of Yrbrurkk’s most valued resources.
The discovery of these mineral pockets prompted the creation of large trading centers on Yrbrurkk. For hundreds of orbital periods, the Ybruks dominated their sector of the intergalactic market by selling their valued resources to anyone who visited. This inevitably attracted the dregs of intergalactic society, as Yrbrurkk became a major investor into intergalactic trade. This, after many extensive business deals, gradually shaped Yrbrurkk into an important locus for the intergalactic black market. As a result, more criminal groups and trade syndicates flocked to the planet to strike deals and do business at an ever-increasing rate. Soon, Yrbrurkk became a refuge for all who sought to sneak away from the prying eyes of various intergalactic governments across the Galaxy.
