Da’oah is a small, volcanic world full of crater fields, ashen hills, and gargantuan volcanoes. The planet’s soil and rocky outcroppings range from hard and durable to nutrient-rich and porous, making some regions of Da’oah suitable for farming while others are barren and inhospitable. However, Da’oah’s random environments are not what makes the planet as volatile and unforgiving as it is. Rather, the large magellanic clouds of magmatic and explosive gases surrounding Da’oah and its upper atmospheres make the planet a dangerous place to settle. Temperatures across the planet fluctuate constantly, and, coupled with periodic firestorms, these heat clouds only add to the incessant heat generated from Da’oah’s numerous volcanic craters, magma fields, and towering fire geysers.
Da’oah is one of two twin planets located in the The Wall within the Galaxy. Like its counterpart, Vo’oltaire, Da’oah is a dwarf planet that is not inherently inhospitable but is rendered so by the uniquely charged magellanic clouds coating the planet’s outer atmospheres. Da’oah’s terrain consists of gigantic and volatile volcanoes surrounded by multiple lava fields, magma rivers, ashen forests of fossilized trees, and meadows of lush magmatic soil. Many of the planet’s local settlements are near the lava fields and magma floodplains, just out of reach of a volcano’s wrath but close enough to reap the benefits from seasonal wildfires and fiery erosion.
However, despite their strategic lifestyles, Da’oah's local inhabitants contend with dangerous and incredibly lethal gasstorms that are anything but predictable. Colloquially known as “Sky Smolder,” or “Öuoon’s Spit” (OH-hoo-OON) (after the Da’oan goddess of flame and smoke), the liquid gas rain is easily ignited by any stray spark from one of Da’oah’s volcanoes or fire geysers. Effectively, this creates a hailstorm of napalm-like fire to frequently (and indiscriminately) pour from the planet’s skies across the planet. As such, Da’oah has been nicknamed “The Enraged Awakened One,” both in reference to the moniker of its twin planet, and to the many parts of local environments that attempt to annihilate everything mercilessly.
The Da'oan (DAH-OH-an)
The principal species living on Da’oah are the industrious and adaptable Da’oan. A stout and durable species, it is rumored that they are not the native species of the planet but chose Da’oah as their home as “the climate quite agrees with them.” Regardless, Da’oans make a living cultivating the fiery flows of the planet, plumbing the riverbeds and drained lava fields for precious metals, metalloids and minerals. Then, Da’oan prospectors will return to their large metallic cities, where their finest Craftmasters, Slagsmiths, and Magmaticists combine specialized scientific transfusion techniques and secretive alchemical solutions to forge the raw magma and materials into one of the most heat-resistant and flame-proof materials in the Galaxy, Scorium.
Da'oan Metallurgy
Scorium is an exceptionally versatile material: it can be refined into incredibly durable ingots, which can be used for weapons, armor, or other technological advancements, or it can be shaped into large slabs for construction or structural reinforcement. As a result, it is not particularly surprising that the majority of Da’oan settlements and citadels are composed primarily of Scorium slabs and bricks. This seems to be the reason why consistent sedentary life appears neither impossible nor irrational for the Da’oan.
Da'oan Culture
Little is known about Da’oan culture. Although it seems that Da’oan society is egalitarian and absent of strict gender norms, Da’oan faith appears to highlight female deities and “the power of the All-Mother” over male beings. Da’oan society seems to be organized around mining, forging, and selling manufactured goods from the natural resources available. Da’oans have established a practical monopoly on the Galaxy’s supply of Scorium, and, as a result, have been able to benefit significantly.
Miscellaneous Species
The other remaining species on Da’oah are not as fortunate as the Da’oan. Many industrial investors, in hopes of unlocking the secrets of Da’oan metallurgy (and perhaps steal some supplies of Scorium along the way) have journeyed to the volcanic planet. None of their endeavors have been successful, and as a result, many of these intergalactic businessbeings have abandoned their colonial workforces on the planet’s surface without any chance of future support or resupply. These miscellaneous workers, left without any intimate knowledge of Da’oah’s ecosystems, nor any ways of mitigating the damage dealt from the periodic Sky Smolder storms, scramble for any chance at survival. However, experts predict that unless they garner support from the local Da’oan settlements, these wayward workers are doomed to die a fiery and painful death on Da’oah’s magmatic surface.
Potential customers of Scorium are widespread and come from many different walks of life. Ship captains with lighter and/or faster vessels make a habit of purchasing Scorium to reinforce their ship’s engines and cooling units whenever possible, as the resource is exceptionally useful for mitigating engine overheating or combustion caused by continuous mechanical stress. Colonists hoping to establish new settlements on some of the most unpredictable and inhospitable celestial bodies clamber to Da’oan markets in hopes of obtaining enough of the potent material for their needs. Scientists and soldiers both purchase Scorium in enormous quantities from the intergalactic markets, one to reinforce their fellow troop’s armor, weapons, and vehicles, and the other to try to uncover the closely kept secrets of what the material is made of and how it is forged.
