Larrius is a large gas planet located near the Outer Core of the Galaxy. Despite not having any naturally-occurring physical terrain, the technologically advanced Larrian have managed to manufacture and inhabit large floating biodomes inside the planet’s atmosphere. Each of these biodomes are home to many different artificial environments, artificial gravity, and day/night cycles. Some of the largest platforms, including Larri’ántróple (LARR-ee-ANN-TROPP-ell-eee) house up to five different biomes, each with their own smaller towns and cities located within. In summary, Larrius is a collection of aerial cities floating within an orange-colored void that’s only real borders between its atmosphere and outer space are its increasingly thinning levels of breathable air, and the twin ring-like asteroid belts orbiting around the planet.
Larrius is a collection of artificial constructs and environments all wrapped within a giant gas cloud. Though the planet’s gas clouds and storms contain pockets of rare elements, including Cryocogen, Potium, and Neuronium, all of the planet’s terrestrial areas are synthetic. This has led many intergalactic scientists to conclude that Larrius is not the Larrian homeworld, but a mining colony that rapidly evolved into a series of sprawling metropoles dedicated to scientific development and advancement. Whatever the case, the Larrian people are proud of their extensive infrastructure and scientific achievements, and fervently deny ever existing anywhere outside of their gaseous home.
Larrius is orbited by two small asteroid belts that surround the upper reaches of the planet’s atmosphere. Nicknamed the “Twin Rings” by the locals, these asteroid belts are much more than interplanetary debris fields. Though they occasionally inhibit ship’s abilities to enter or exit the planet, the Larrians believe that the Twin Rings provide their people an “inarguable edge” against any and all would-be invaders. Without extensive piloting experience, one could easily collide with an asteroid, and have their craft severely damaged, if not destroyed entirely. Furthermore, the Twin Rings also nullify all tracking systems of any and all known spaceships while they are entering or leaving Larrius’ orbit. This means that unless a pilot can “fly blind,” they are doomed to wander aimlessly through the asteroid fields until they can push through them and make it through the planet’s upper atmosphere or abandon their endeavor entirely.
Just outside of these two rings is the planet’s single moon, Phoson III, an arid grassland teeming with minerals. Incredibly, despite the moon’s current aridity and inhospitality, Larrian scientists have discovered massive fossils scattered across Phoson III’s landscape. It is therefore hypothesized that Phoson III was once a lush, vibrant world home to many colossal creatures, both predatory and docile. The cause of Phoson III's environmental changes is currently unknown, but Larrian common knowledge dictates that the moon’s surface suffered from a solar flare's blast, which was reflected and enhanced by Larrius’ upper atmosphere. Whatever the cause, Larrian daredevils and geneticists will frequently travel to Phoson III to further advance Larrius’ sophisticated cloning technologies, or for fun.
The Larrians (LAYR-ee-ahn)
The primary species of Larrius is the Larrian people. Large, muscle-bound, and incredibly intelligent beings, the Larrians take immense pride in being able to survive and thrive in some of the Galaxy’s most inhospitable conditions. Larrians have developed some of the most advanced technologies the Galaxy has ever known, including advanced genetic modification, impressive regenerative serums, and cloning pods that no race has managed to surpass (save the Luciesapiens). The base technologies behind the widely-used Stargates—huge portals located in space which allow vessels of multiple shapes and sizes to travel almost instantaneously to a paired gate—were developed by the Larrian Galactic Wardens ages ago. Because of this, the Larrian consider Stargates and similar technologies their crowning achievements, and maintain a practical monopoly over their use and maintenance.
Larrian Culture
Larrian society is relatively egalitarian in nature, with few restrictions put in place for either of the sexes. Although Larrians do not shy away from warfare, exploration and scientific discovery are held in far higher esteem. However, due to the planet’s lack of natural physical resources, Larrians frequently journey across the Galaxy in search of valuable materials. This has developed a planetary economy that is heavily-based on obtaining raw terrestrial materials instead of manufactured goods. In turn, this has made Larrius’ main exports become their various technological creations. Although this has made them a serious competitor in the intergalactic market, it has also inevitably led to other species exploiting the Larrian. By trading them low amounts of raw materials for ridiculous levels of manufactured goods or coin, many species have been able to deceive and blackmail the Larrian into one-sided trade deals. Nonetheless, the Larrian’s strong influence on the technological sector, as well as their abundant and renewable supply of gaseous materials, allows them to retain their foothold in intergalactic trade.
