Located deep within the Galaxy’s Inner Core, Brümagga is a dense, dark world rich with swamp life. With multiple atmospheres full of thick, moist fog, daylight is a scarce resource everywhere across the planet. Few photosynthetic organisms live across Brümadda’s surface, and traditional farming and cooking methods are usually impossible. Moreover, Brümagga’s waterways are equally opaque, with little light permeating their shadowy shores. As such, few creatures dare venture within Brümagga’s cloudy waterways, as few food sources remain along their darkened bottoms. Only the most tenacious and adaptable species can hope to survive in these nutrient-poor areas.
Despite its short daylight cycle and misty atmospheres, Brümagga’s wetlands are lush with deep, dark rivers, enormous ponds, and many different species of bioluminescent fungi. Virtually every plant species is chemosynthetic, with many producing bright shades of green, yellow, orange, and pink light across their various surfaces. Similarly, many of Brümagga’s indigenous fauna emit bright colors throughout their bodies, as a means of terrestrial navigation and coherent communication. In particular, the Lactarius Luminus—or as the locals call it, the Kwénarggwa N’bunga (KWEH-nar-GWAH neh-BOON-guh) “Glowgloom”—is a gigantic luminescent mushroom that towers over Brümagga’s swamplands. With stems measuring anywhere between thirty and seventy-five meters tall and ten to fifteen meters wide and upper membranes measuring fifty to one hundred meters across, the Glowgloom produces enough light to keep nearby areas in permanent twilight.
A misty, murky planet full of florescent flora, fauna and fungi, Brümagga is an intergalactic nexus for industrial ecology. Though few photosynthetic plants grow across the planet’s surface, and traditional combustion-based metallurgy is nearly impossible, local populations produce technologies comparable to other galactic industrial centers, dominating the intergalactic chemo-fluorescent market in the process. Combining various compounds from local species of flora and fungi, the Indigenous Brümari create weapons, tools and dwellings that fiercely compete with plasma or ionic-based equivalents. Despite resembling more rudimentary technologies, Brümari equipment is well-suited for continual subsistence across wetland planets.
Notwithstanding their lack of combustion manufacturing, Brümari fungal farmers and wetland chemists are the primary producers of the various chemical agents necessary for widespread infrastructure. Using materials found within the enormous Glowgloom and Halohroom—called “M’dūnnana N’bunga in the local dialect (MEH-doo-NUN-nah neh-BOON-guh)—Brümari builders hollow-out these giant fungi to gather important biochemical agents and craft dwellings to expand their bio-synthetic cities. In other words, the Brümari gather crucial resources for their chemo-industrial economies while expanding their organic metropoles—as Brümari cities expand across Brümagga’s mist-covered swamps, their economies (both on and off-world) continue to grow.
Brümari (brooo-MAH-reee)
Amphibious arachnoids with a knack for crafting chemo-luminescent wares and engaging in industrial ecology, the Brümari are innovators within the galactic fluorescent industry. Using their powerful spinnerets within their throats and mandibles, these multi-limbed makers combine their incredibly strong webbing with the natural elements to create durable and versatile tools, weapons, and other pieces of technology. Using their many eyes, hooked claws and inherent agility, these skilled spinners navigate their darkened homes with relative ease, using their natural environment to their advantage. Like other species across Brümagga, the Brümari emit various color shades across their bodies, including blue, indigo, purple, and green. It is widely believed that there is a distinct correlation between a Brümari’s particular coloration and its intensity and their individual (and collective) emotional state(s). So far, no individual Brümari has openly challenged this theory.
Brümari Socioeconomic Factionalism
Across Brümagga, the Brüari organize themselves into one of several business factions. Each dedicated towards perfecting their craft, these groups intensely compete with one another to garner more prestige for their planet—and species—across the Galaxy. While some of these factions originate from family-run businesses, most of these groups are economic entities whose identities and allegiances frequently fluctuate, welcoming different Brümari individuals from across the planet. The current Brümari business factions are as follows:
Kïk’lánkk (KEEK-ih-LAWNK)—“Silkstriders”
Masters of weaving, sewing, and threading, members of the Kïk’lánkk “Silkstriders” Fabric Guild are well-known throughout the Galaxy. Crafting fine clothing, hardy environmental armors, and other textiles out of their webbing, the Silkstriders specialize in making durable cloths that are comfortable yet resilient against many types of damage. In particular, Silkstrider cloth is almost impervious to water-damage, is highly resistant to noxious agents (i.e. poisonous/corrosive gases), and is a poor conductor for electrical charges. Moreover, Silkstrider cloth is an excellent insulator, and if layered appropriately, can prepare virtually any light clothing for arctic survival. Simply put, Silktrider wares are considered luxuries to wealthy collectors and hardened survivalists alike.
Kryelakna (KREYE-lakh-NAH)—“Brightsight”
Innovators in their own right, members of the Kryelakna “Brightsight” Fluorescence Corporation pride themselves on their dye-making abilities. Frequently collaborating with the Kïk’lánkk “Silkstriders” Fabric Guild, Brightsight combines coveted alchemical techniques with selective fungal breeding patterns to make luminescent dyes that can be applied onto many different products. Unlike other textile companies, Brightsight dyes are unique in many ways. Besides being resistant to overall wear and tear, Brightsight dyes are notorious for maintaining a constant glow even amidst the darkest and most absorbent of materials. Time only seems to enhance the glow of these colored agents, with their vibrancy and brightness only increasing as they age. Thus, these pigments never cease to lighten up an area, mirroring the bioluminescence of their fungal counterparts. Because of these characteristics, Brightsight dyes are considered priceless by the Galaxy’s most affluent.
Hyk’rakk (HEYE-ih-RACK)—“Ripplereav”
Naturalists, brewers, and chemists of high esteem, Hyk’rakk “Ripplereav” Pharmaceuticals is one of the Galaxy’s most influential independent drug developers and distributors. Combining indigenous flora, fauna, and fungal samples with chemical compounds originating on and off-Brümagga, Ripplereav creates powerful remedies, medicinal treatments, and antiseptic tonics. Praised for their high quality, wide-spread effectiveness across multiple species, and relative affordability, Ripplereav medications are often sought by medical practitioners everywhere across the Galaxy. Partnering with other distributors both inside and outside of the intergalactic market, Ripplereav has cemented their influence throughout the medical field everywhere throughout the Inner and Outer Cores.
Kerrékkk (kair-REHCK)—“Skyskimmer”
Pioneers in the infantile Chemo-casting industry, the Kerrékkk “Skyskimmer” Machinist Syndicate breach smithing paradigms and break new grounds in technological advancement. The original inventors of “chemollurgy”—a manner of casting metals and forging alloys without combustion-based methods and materials—Skyskimmer shapes versatile, durable, and luminescent tools that rival their more sophisticated counterparts. Combining rare elements found within indigenous Brümagga flora and fungi with potent chemical compounds, chemollurgy allows dark and damp worlds to maintain a foothold in mechanical markets. Moreover, despite their dismissal of plasma or laser-based technologies, Skyskimmer tools, armaments, and armor are incredibly resilient, and evoke power and prestige for all who wield them. As such, owning a Skyskimmer blade or armor piece is synonymous with one of two things: the equipment, despite its aesthetic simplicity, is not to be trifled with, and when wielded appropriately, spells certain doom to all in their path.
